Les Anges Déchus

Recommended Posts

Khus, blonde tobacco, life everlasting, orris root, black currant, cabreuva, Spanish moss, leather, and ambrette.

imp: soft tobacco and leather.

wet: the tobacco is the most prominent note here, thought this really smells like some generic men's cologne on me. there's something acrid here as well that does not suit me at all.

dry: this goes kinda sweet and florally on me, not men's cologne at all once dry. interesting but not really for me.

Of all of the second series I tried out of the imp pack, THIS was the winner. Oh God was it ever! It was a somewhat masculine-unisex blend, a very multi-faceted leather cologne. A bit of sweet flowers. And it lasted for hours...toward the end it smelled like spicy leather soap, clean but really hot. Great scent, great staying power.

In bottle: Mostly amberette, current, and what I’m suspecting is cabreuva. I don’t expect this to go well as khus is high end vetiver and orris is nearly as bad on me. Wet: Much as in the bottle, fruit and amberette with a touch of moss, khus, and orris. If you can tolerate orris/vetiver, but aren’t that keen on them, this is about as light as they get in a scent, I think. The blend is appealing, though not on me, light and fruity with a strong incense edge. Dry; fades to a sweet ambrette with faint fruit scent. I would love this on someone else, it’s delicious.

Wet, leather and spicy cologne.

Drying, leather, and spice and cologne.

I don't know...something in it is reminding me of a particular type of guy I used to run into once in a while...the sort that was always dressed to impress, with the expensive haircut. The guy that was headed into Marketing or Business or Law, and was going to be the Next Big Thing? The sort that even if I did think he was going to be wealthy, I wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole because he cared more bout his car and clothes than any girl he happened to be with.

It isn't an unpleasant scent, it just has an association in my head that I don't care for.

This is soft tobacco and leather. I find this to be a sophisticated, subtle, man's cologne. Not for my taste, but if you like tobacco, leather, and sophisticated men, give this a whirl.

*pause*

Wait. Did I just say I wasn't for sophisticated men? :P

I don't know if it was the "life everlasting", but there was a slight hint of pickle in this one  Very strange! I think I would have liked it, but there was that subdued scent of pickle behind it all the time! Not much throw.

I was definately intrigued by the mention of this being a "girly de sade" ... but on me it all turns incensey.

It starts off very strong soapish, but drys down to a co-mingling incense smell... like what my bpal bottle box smells like.

Nice for a general scent, but not the unique leather tobacco blend I was hoping for.

In the bottle: Just smells like very sharp generic men's cologne to my nose. Pretty disappointing right off the bat when compared with the lovely notes listed.

Wet: Ugh, still really sharp and cologney. I don't know what "khus" or "life everlasting," "cabreuva," or "ambrette" smell like so I don't know what all is lending the twang I do NOT like.

Drydown: After ten minutes or so, it becomes more tolerable. Still can't detect tobacco or leather. I think I can smell a bit of the black currant (which is to say I smell the faintest hint of a dark fruit). Oh, I know what this really reminds me of-- Hugo Boss. *gag*

Verdict: Loved the way the notes read; was really let-down by the bottle-sniff. Didn't like it wet, and thought the drydown was so-so until the scent reminded me of Hugo Boss and now I have horrible associations w/ junior high. OFF! Must get it off! Bottle is goin' up for swaps. *shudders*

In the bottle this smells very close to a commercial perfume. Odd.

On me, it changes a lot. Now it's sort of an incensey-cologne smell. I was hoping for more tobacco, tbh.

Eeesh. This stays REALLY cologne-y. I generally like scents with a more masculine edge, but this is too much like men's commercial cologne on my skin. Not for me :huh?:

I bought this almost entirely based on the painting, and the leather & khus (vetiver) notes. I hope I didn't make the mistake of my life there :P

In the bottle: mmh. Ambrette and leather. Not a bad start :D

On wet: More ambrette and fresh, sharp leather. orris, tobacco and moss is also there, but I'm not getting a lot of the khus, sadly :(

Drydown: currant and tobacco come through, leather still present, moss sweetens everything - this isn't a blend I would've normally tried based on the description, but this is exactly the kind of sweet leathery fragrance that I never knew I needed but I now really really adore. Amazing :D Thank you Lab :)

Man, the hairline on these guys! hahhaa anyways..

Wet: khus was really strong the 1st time I tested this, but 2nd and 3rd test? Not really. This does strike me as a masculine earthy cologne mix. I smell the leather and tobacco strongest, then khus, orris and ambrette. Not sure where the currant is this time.. it was there strongly on 2nd testing? Strange.

Drydown: slight currant comes out, but I wouldn't be able to identify it blindly. The ambrette and cabrueva develop and orris goes a bit powdery, but with the other notes, it just makes this even darker. I don't know what life everlasting smells like but a web description says it's a flower part of the mint family and smells of curry when crushed.. uhm. Don't smell that? Maybe a bit but the familiar notes are obscuring my senses... overall, nice masculine blend. Powerful and attention grabbing in a dark, brooding sort of way.

In the Imp: Really strong cologne, alcohol and all.

Wet: This really, really conjures the imagery it's modeled after. And Aerinha also hit the nail on the head. Smells like a high end cologne that a detached businessman would wear. I'm having a hard time picking out notes even though I'm familiar with most of them. Definitely ambrette, which is musk-like, and the dirty-ish orris. But it's still got that alcholic tinge to it - the cabrueva, maybe? That's the main note I'm unsure about, but I believe it's supposed to have a bit of a metallic feel.

Dry: Expensive, but still commercial, cologne. I don't even have an aversion to "guy" scents, but this is so generic to me that it's bothersome. It's a cross between baby oil and the Nordstrom's perfume department. I really like khus but I don't get any hint of it, currant, or leather from this. Tobacco isn't around either, maybe vaguely. I don't think the angels like my skin chemistry very much...

Overall: Bit of a snobby vibe! Not my thing, but I believe part of it is me not amping the more pleasant notes. I do get hints of a "dry root" now and then, probably due to the moss and khus, but they're largely hidden in the backdrop.

In the Imp (ITI): I smell strong ambrette, cabreuva, and Spanish moss on initial sniff. It's clean, tropically green, and faintly woody. On repeated sniffs, I think I can smell the khus, but there isn't the warmness I would expect from the other scents like tobacco.

Wet: The cabreuva is really strong (and just as in note descriptions, it is woodsy and soapy at the same time). I still smell the hibiscus; however, I think I can discern the blonde tobacco, but just barely.

Dry: Sadly, the soapiness has overcome most of the other notes. There is just a little moss and tobacco left, but I wish I could smell the rest of the notes.

Other Impressions: Powder and sex, as in sexiness, from my husband. That's surprising.

Wet - I don't know. I don't know what that smell is. It's masculine. ?? I can't pick anything out! It's nice though. A really nice, expensive cologne is what I get out of this. I think this would be really sexy on a man.

This was a generous frimp from a forumite, and as I can't see wearing it ever, and don't currently have a man to hold down and splash it on, I will likely pass this on to someone else to try. Glad to have tried it though!

I think aine's review from 2007 is spot on. Les Anges Déchus is like something clean and refined up against something relaxing and maybe even a tad debauched. The khus and blonde tobacco rear up when wet and the orris, leather, moss, and ambrette pull in the other direction...this smells aggressively buffed, like the kind of perfume you'd find at the centerfold of a fashion magazine. And yet. There's something really compelling and intimate here that smells like super-skin. Dropping this imp in my husband's BPAL drawer...I think I'd like to smell this on him.

les anges dechus is well-blended to the extent that i cannot actually discern any of the individual notes. it smells soft, clean, golden and nice; it is "perfumey" in a way that most of my favorite bpals are not. i would say it smells like a very expensive perfume, but not one that i particularly would like to wear.

I usually enjoy traditionally masculine scents, but I wasn't crazy about this one. I get tobacco the most but the rest is pretty thoroughly blended. It's tricky to pick up where one scent ends and another begins. In the end it mostly feels like wearing a fancy cologne. It's not bad, but it isn't for me either.
