Switch Witch Summer 2013 - Questions & Answers

Answers to the questions posed in the SW Chatter thread     Would you like to received a couple of french regional specialities like Crème de marrons (basically sweet chesnut purée with a hint of vanilla aroma - can be eaten as a spread or with yoghurt, used in pastries - although I demolish the stuff with a spoon, because I freaking love it), other preserves/sweet things, tapenade/rouille/aioli/dried tomato caviar/other kinds of savoury spreads and condiments? Although that sounds amazing, I'm not sure that some of the preserves & spreads would get through customs here, so I better say no!   Anything from Villainess that strikes your fancy, either from their update or from the GC? I love Villainess Smacks! They are my favourite body scrubs. I'd also like to try the Datura Slick.   Would you be interested in getting a kombucha starter and instructions on how to use it to easily make your own fermented, probiotic tea drink? No thankyou.   Sooo, the Blooddrop update (Aviary and Summer Simplicities). Anything you'd like from there? I've never tried any Blooddrop perfumes, but I'm always happy to try new perfumes containing my favourite notes (frankincense, honey, vanilla, red or black musk, pomegranate, apple, amber, dragon's blood, etc)   do you have anything that you use on a daily basis that you would always welcome more of? Body butters!   how would you rate your general sense of humor? Are you strictly PG-13, R-rated, NC-17? Hmm, I'm probably a bit more PG-13   Do you like puzzles? What kind? Jigsaw, word, etc? I enjoy word puzzles.   Festival this week -- includes an "encampment" and an art faire. any interest in trinkety things from the encampment or cards/prints from local artists Fantasy cards/prints/artwork is always wonderful.   If you were getting a custom Haus of Gloi blend, what four notes would you choose? Frankincense, Beeswax/Honey, Red Musk and Vanilla Bean.   Dear witchee, I know Canadian chips can be different than others, how does "dill pickle" or "ketchup" sound? Um, no thankyou!   If you have an Etsy wishlist, what are your top 5 favorite things on there? The price is unimportant, not because I'm rich, but because I'd like some inspiration Anything nail polish or stationery are my favourite Etsy items!   Do you like Kickstarter? Are there any projects up that you really like? I think Kickstarter is amazing - there aren't any projects I'm following at the moment though.   How do you feel about glitter? does loose glitter make your skin crawl or would you bathe in it? Love it, love it!!   Do you want/need/like/collect journals? If so, do you prefer lined or unlined? I love journals, though I'm not always great with using them. I've started so many over the years, and only used the first few pages... but there's always hope! I prefer unlined journals.   Is there anything special I could get you from New York City? oh, anything to do with NYC is wonderful by me! I love that city so much & miss it immensely.   Do you like/wear makeup? If so what brands/colors/types? Yes, love it! I prefer high-end brands though - I haven't tried any real indie brands. I love eyeshadows [i use dark browns for everyday use at work, but I like little pops of colour - I have quite a few Urban Decay palettes that are great for some interesting shades], mascaras [black, but would love to try some purple or plum coloured mascaras], blush [Nars "orgasm" is one of my favourite shades, so anything similar to that], lipgloss & lipstick [pinks, plums, berries].   Is there anything that could give your witch a better sense of your style/fashion or decoration preferences? Like tumblrs, pictures you like, websites, stores (or brands) you like or would like to be able to shop at and so forth? My Pinterest is definitely very -me-!   Would you like some detangling and very shiny hair gloss made by malibusunny? If it's Frankincese and myrrh - then yes please!   Gourmet popcorn, yes/no? What do you like: glazed, savory, candied? Nuts or not? Any flavors you wouldn't like? I haven't tried any real gourmet popcorn before - I generally just stick to buttered. I'd be interested to try some savoury flavours though, it could be fun!   Does the idea of wearing a plant as jewelery give you the warm fuzzies or the heebie jeebies? Hmm, not really my thing.   Chocolate: Love? Hate? Allergic? If love, what are your faves? I don't eat it often but I enjoy it when I do! I prefer milk chocolate with nuts or toffee. I also like white chocolate. Now & then I get strong cravings for chocolate so it never goes astray!   Do you like audiobooks? If so, do you have/would you like to try Audible? I'm not a big fan - I definitely prefer paper books!   Following up on the Adagio question from earlier, what are you top five wishes, for teas and blends? I have some Adagion teas listed in my wishlist here I especially want to try the Treacle Tart blend, from the Harry Potter fandom!   Do you have anything that you do ritually, every summer? As in spiritual ritual? No.   What are your top five wishes from ThinkGeek? I don't really have any wishes from there.   Seen anything lately that makes you go OH HOLY FUCK THAT'S AWESOME!! ? Not that I can recall but if I do remember something - I will update this answer!   Knitted things - love or hate? Scarves and/or washclothes are quick and easy.....would you want one of these? If so, what color(s)? Are you allergic to any fiber? Scarves are wonderful! Any colour is fine, though preferably not really bright colours. I'm not allergic to any fibers.   Is there a particular movie genre that you like (Fantasy? Drama? Romantic Comedy? Musicals? TV-Series, etc), and what format would you prefer: DVD, Blu-Ray, or something in the cloud (like Amazon, iTunes, Flixster, etc)? Fantasy and musicals are my favourite. I prefer dvd, however iTunes is fine too   Do you like BPTP clothing? Yes, I love the tees and socks! What size do you wear of: Baby-doll T's Small Regular T's Small yoga pants I haven't tried these as I suspect even the small size would be too big for me   Also, what is your favorite lunacy (or non-lunacy) T-shirt that you don't already own? Or other clothes from BPTP? I love the artwork on The District tshirt (designed by Molly Crabapple), and also the Resurrection tee.   What else do you love from the Trading Post site, and need to have? I lovelovelove the Trading Post bath oils, hair glosses and atmo sprays. I'd never say no to Snake Oil anything (bath oil or hair gloss), and I'd also love to try the Morocco bath oil and hair gloss.   Would you want anything from the Brown and Haley - makers of Almond Roca and Mountain Bars outlet? - There are lots of amazing things on that site - I love toffee & nuts, so anything containing both of those things is always good with me!   Oberto jerky/homemade goods Unfortunately, I don't think either of those things would make it through customs into Australia.   TAL update on etsy. Is there anything you want/need? the White Light bath oil. I didn't even know there was such a thing!   Tattoos? Do you love them? Hate them? Have any? Want any? I have two - a shooting star on my left ankle, and a star&moon theme on my right hip, with the word "dad" in it - I got it done a year after my dad passed away. I have been thinking about getting another one, perhaps on my shoulder but not entirely sure what. Maybe a dragonfly. I like smaller tattoos on me, but there are some pretty amazing pieces of tattoo art out there!   Would you like some Tw*twaffle soap or scent or lotion? Another company I've not heard of before, but I'm always keen to try new scented things! I do prefer creams to lotions though, and I don't need any more soap.   If you don't consider yourself in a "fandom", are there any TV shows or Movies that you really like and/or watch regularly or any actors/actresses you wouldn't leave standing in the rain? TV shows - I don't watch a lot, but I really liked "Smash" when it was on, even though the storylines were cheesy (but a show about producing musicals on Broadway! I had to love it), and I love "Breaking Pointe", which starts again in July (yay!). Movies - I'm a huge Lord of the Rings fan. I don't read fanfiction or anything ultra fangirly like that, but they are amongst my favourites to watch. Actors/actresses - I adore Neil Patrick Harris, Jonathon Groff, and Zachary Quinto; and Natalie Portman and Emily Blunt.   For those of you who are big readers: Are there any books that just came out (like within the last two months) or are about to come out during this round that you're really looking forward to? I was really looking forward to Neil Gaiman's new book, "The Ocean at the End of the Lane", but I already bought it May settle in to read it this weekend! Other than that... hmm, I'm not sure actually.   Do you have a quote that's not more than, say, a dozen words long that you would like in a cross-stitch? Anything about magic is appropriate!   What do you love about summer (even if it’s your least-favorite season)? It's winter over here at the moment so I feel aoo nostalgic! We have Christmas in summer over here, so I love that, and having time off from work (even if it's just a few days around Christmas), the warm nights, wearing cute outfits like little dresses or skirts (I really much prefer summer clothing than winter!), having dinner outside, days where the sun doesn't set until 9pm... summer fruits (I love stone fruits), bbqs, cold drinks. Oh, I miss summer!   Would any witchee be interested in this comic? or any of her three comics? That looks really interesting! I don't read a lot of comics or graphic novels, but I appreciate their style.   I just found out Oreo is launching ones with watermelon flavor in the USA only. Is it something you would enjoy? No thankyou...   Does anything from the TP Etsy update interest you? oops, I answered this originally by looking at the TAL update! I've moved my answer to the right question... but yes, Trading Post Etsy! I would always love another bottle of East Indian Palace atmo as I love it immensely!   -Do you have any long trips coming up? If so, could you use things to occupy yourself? No long trips planned for awhile Work is going to be pretty busy for the next few months, so I am focussing on getting through that!   I'm going to Jungle Jim's next week (it's basically a massive international food gasm in Ohio, look it up); would anything interest you? Wow, everything looks amazing!   Name three things that you could use, but might not necessarily think to get for yourself? hmmm, I need to think about this one some more, so I will answer it later!   What is your favorite color? pink, silver & purple   What is your favorite season? Spring, especially when it's really getting warmer. Everything feels more hopeful then.   If you could live anywhere in the world and money was no object, where would it be? New York City!! I love that city so, so much.   Would you like mexican vanilla or silver rings/necklaces? Sure, that sounds amazing!   Is there anything from the Oddment Emporium you would like? I've never tried Conjure Oils before; I have to admit, their site is a little overwhelming to me, but I'm always excited to try new scents, especially if they contain my favourite notes (things like vanilla, honey frankincense, amber, plum, pomegranate, red currant, myrrh...). Actually, Midnight and Sol Niger look pretty amazing!   If you cook, would you be interested in-hand made spice mixes/rubs? That sounds awesome! I'm not great with cooking with spices but it's definitely something I'd like to learn more about & master.   If you knit/crochet, what sizes of needles do you need? I don't do either   What styles of artwork do you like? This is my very old deviantart account which hasn't been updated in years; but the artwork in my favourites here are the sort of styles I adore.   What are the three BPALs you would most like to receive - one GC, one not-hard to find LE, and one HTF LE from your dreams? Dragon's Musk; Expressive Head; and Voodoo Queen   Would you like if your witch sent a regional pop/soda? If so, what type (Root beer, creme soda, cola, citrus-flavored, chocolate-flavored, etc...)? To be honest, probably not... I don't really like a lot of different flavour soft drinks, and then I'd be scared to drink it because I'd be sad to finish it, so...   When you are having a really rough day, what do you like to do/have to make it a little brighter? Having someone prepare a nice meal for me (or going out... aka, a meal that I don't have to cook!) is always wonderful. Hugs, being able to vent, and listening to good music (usually Tori Amos when I've been having a rough day!) all help too.   Do you have any symbols or totems that are meaningful to you? stars... I have a shooting star tattoo, and currently my desk at work is covered in little sparkly star confetti that a dear colleague sprinkled on my desk after a hard day. They've just always been something I love.   Do you welcome knitted items? If so, what would you like most? (amigurumi, washcloth, socks, shawl, shawlette, scarf, wrist warmers, hat, etc.) Do you have any favorite fibers? How about any fiber allergies? Favorite color for knitted items? Knitted items are fine here! I will admit I know pretty much nothing about knitting and fibres though, other than to appreciate someone else's talent - and appreciate how WARM knitted things are!   Do you want to receive one big package or a bunch of small ones? Digital stuff all at the end when the box should arrive or as we go? Honestly, I don't mind at all! Whatever works best for my Witch is absolutely fine by me!   Zombie or Cthulhu? Cthulhu!   Werewolves or Vampires? Vampires for sure!!   Ninjas or Pirates? Ummm.... ninjas, I think?!   STARBUCKS, Yay or Nay? Anything you particularly like? Unfortunately, we don't have any here in the state I live in   Is there a Quote that resonates with you, or that you particularly like a lot. Would this be something you would like artwork made of for your walls or a shirt/bag/scarf? Hmm, there are a few I like but nothing sticks out right now... if I think of something, I will update my answer!   Are there any BPALs that you loved the idea of, the imagery - whether artwork or description - but which didn't work out for you? Alice, from the Mad Hatters Tea Party collection - I love Alice in Wonderland and the notes sound perfect, but it was just... meh, on me. It's been awhile since I tried it though, so maybe it will work better now....   What's your opinion on Moonalisa? Any favorites or products you'd like to try? I've never tried it! The lip butters, perfume, and cocoa butters looks pretty amazing though!   Have you ever tried Spoonfudge? Would you enjoy it if your Witch would send you some? Which of the flavors would you like? I don't really like eating things straight from jars, so I don't think this would be for me!   Do you enjoy drinking hot chocolate, and would you like stuff to make it with, or to add to it? I love hot chocolate! I'd definitely love stuff to make it with.   Do you use waxmelts or tarts? If so, which ones do you prefer? I love scented candles, but I don't use melts or tarts.   Is there someone on the forums (within SW or not) who knows you really well and might be able to help with stalking? Hmm, not really...   If you happen to find out who your SW is early in the round, how much would it bother you? It wouldn't bother me at all! In previous rounds, all of my witchees have revealed themselves at the end because I am not great with guessing mid-round - however, I don't mind at all when they reveal (or if I do actually guess!), as long as they do reveal   what is your favourite object, that you own, ignoring sentimental reasons for attachment? So I guess something you find beautiful, or fun, or incredibly useful. My MacBook Pro & ipad; bpal collection, electric blanket! ipod & itunes collection. oh, and my stuffed Stitch, who comes travelling with us <3   How big is too big...for something to hang on your walls? If I'm painting you a pretty picture, are there maximum dimensions that you have/prefer? Because we're renting, we can't hang anything on the walls. However, I do have pinboards in my office and also at work, so anything that would fit on that is fine!   Gift cards/vouchers - yay or nay? If you like them - which stores would you like one for? I love them! Any of my favourite etailers are great - Amazon, Bookworld.com.au, Villainess, etsy, Sock Dreams, the Soap Box Company... any really!   What style is your sense of humour? I like intelligent humour. I struggle with bad comedy movies (like anything with Owen Wilson, Jim Carey, 'The Hangover' etc comedy) - really not a fan of that kind of humour at all.   Opinions on table top games, from cards and board games, to dice and rpgs. What do you like? What don't you like? Favorites? Any classics you like? Do you collect any? I don't really play any.   What would you like from the most recent BPAL update? What are you planning on buying for yourself and what would you like to try? I have ordered decants of Calocyclas and Epibulia, and a full bottle of the Sweet Pea single note; apart from that, nothing else really appealed. I suppose that's a good thing though, as I am going to be in trouble when the CD returns!   Is there a literary character you identify with? Even if it's not spot-on, just someone you found yourself having that "I identify with this" feeling? Witch Baby, from the same book by Francesca Lia Block. Not quite as much these days, but definitely in years past, I related to strongly it was like FLB could see inside my head.   What are the three books you most want to read right now, and which you don't already have? Stuffed & Starved: The Hidden Battle for the World Food System ; Salt Sugar Fat: How the Food GIants Hooked Us ; Food & Philosophy: Eat, Think and Be Merry   Would you like something from Empire Edibles? oooh, the fudge looks amazing, especially the Spice Trail fudge. I've never tried anything from there before.   Is there anything small you try to collect from everywhere you visit? When I travel I always keep travel journals so I can stick in things like brochures, postcards, entrance tickets etc. Other than that, magnets because they are useful as well as a little reminder   Witchee, I know that SW isn't about what you get... but could you name one thing you would be heartbroken not to get and one thing you would be a-ok if it didn't make it in your box? (i.e. do you REALLY want perfume oil of some sort, or would you be totally heartbroken if there was no Lush in your box, etc) The one thing I really want is a reveal, and hopefully a new friend!! Everything on my wishlists are completely optional and just there for ideas. Just having contact with someone new is the best thing about Switch Witch   Do you like tarot cards, pendulums and rune stones etc? If so, what type? I have a couple of decks of tarot cards, and have been meaning to learn more about how to read them (I started several years ago but stopped due to study commitments). I'd like to start doing that again.   What fandoms do you belong to? I don't belong to any fandoms as such (ie, I'm not active in RPG games or fan-fiction), but I have a healthy appreciation for Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Alice in Wonderland, and anything related to Neil Gaiman.   What cheers you up? Sparkly & glittery things, MUSIC, bpal, good meals out, makeup   Who or where would you most want to haunt? Who would you least want to be haunted by? Not really sure! I really don't like being haunted by regrets though, so I would hate to be haunted by a ghost who was taunting me.   What question do you hate to answer? Those requiring a humourous response as I am not naturally funny.   What is the best compliment you have/could receive? Best compliment is about how hard I work & being helpful. We had some recent feedback at work from an external consultant who came in and interviewed the whole management team about each other's performance, and I scored the highest out of everyone, which was a huge compliment as I take a lot of pride in the work that I do.   Would you like anything from an European country? Any particular food or goodies, magazines, books, whatever would be available to your witch in his/her country. European chocolate is pretty wonderful   Do you like bags? If so, what type (rucksack, clutch, shopping bag) colour and would you like/need a new one? I love bags! I don't need any more totes or shopping bags, but shoulder bags are great.   What's your favourite comfort food(snack or candy etc) and/or drink? I love potato chips & buttered popcorn - savoury snacks are my favourite. I don't mind chocolate or candy, but for comfort food, it's all about the crunch!   Would you be interested in someone writing out for you a favourite recipe, or finding or devising one which they think you'd like? If so, please provide your favourite ingredients, info on how you like to cook/store and use food, and any intolerances - unless all of these are in your questionnaire, or you don't like the idea. (I'm not saying I'd definitely do this, unless someone is keen, and it wouldn't be the only gift). I guess for other witches this might include something like a knitting pattern - not my thing but would you like that? Or indeed would you like a picture created for you (if so what kind) or a story written? (sorry if this feels a bit Spanish Inquisition!) Sure, I'd love any recipes! No food intolerances over here. I love reading food blogs & magazines, and saving recipes to try later. Knitting - I don't knit Picture or story - of course, if my witch was creative!   If you knew you were going to live comfortably for say 800 years, what profession, calling or project might you pursue with some of your extra years, which you imagine you may not do in the life that you have? Is there any thing - an object, a donation on your behalf, some research done for you, whatever - that your witch could do about this that you would like? And if you can't think of a present, would you rather she/he (I!) didn't either and confined themselves to things you are already involved in? I think anything involving books & education. A donation to any cause that supports educating people & encouraging learning would be wonderful. Every one should have equal access to education & the chance to improve their life.   What colors/style is your kitchen decor? And do you entertain in your home? We have neutral walls throughout the house, and grey marble coloured benchtops. Our kitchen is quite small unfortunately. We don't do a lot of entertaining.   Are your ears pierced? Not anymore   Do you like stuffies/stuffed animals/art doll type thingies? If so, any particular type you'd love to get? Not really, as I have a lot of things like that & am running out of room to put them!   Switch Witch is, of course, all about you.....but if your Witch was so inclined, are there wee little ones in your home that will get jealous and are just too young to understand why you won't share the love, who maybe need a touch of Witchee love all their own, to distract them while you hide all your lovelies?!? It's all fine over here   Do you read literature/culture blogs or websites of any kind? I'm thinking about anything that would help a putative witch to get a sense of what your current tastes in books, movies, games, genres, approaches to culture and literature and so forth I LOVE blogs. I try to read so many - makeup & beauty blogs, scrapbooking blogs, blogs about technology, cooking & food blogs. I read blogs of favourite authors like Neil Gaiman, and blogs about music & theatre in Australia. I also enjoy blogs filled with inspiration & pretty pictures. My google reader is overflowing... also I am sad about having to find a replacement for google reader before the end of the month!   How do you feel about traditional picnics (namely the intimate table for two variety)? Old-fashioned basket or something more utilitarian (cooler/insulated bag)? We don't really do many picnics...   If you were put in a room with 100 random other people the same age and sex as you, from your country, in what way do you think you would be different from the average? I don't know... sometimes I feel pretty average :\   Haus of Gloi did a Reverie update! Do any of them interest you? (Or anything else up currently?) I've never tried Haus of Gloi, but the Black Raspberry Creme lipbalm sounds gorgeous! The pumpkin butters look interesting too.   Witchee, do you cook? Do you do all the cooking? Is it a chore or a pleasure? I do cook, but not a lot - I would certainly like to learn to do more! I can follow recipes, but I can be lazy however, developing my cooking skills is definitely something I would like to focus on now that I'm finished with all my studies.   Which reading level do you prefer to read in YA or Adult? Or even both? Both!   If you could have one rare bpal which one would you choose? Voodoo Queen.   (Feel free not to answer, I know it's not a standard one!) Are you kinky? Not really!   Do you enjoy scented candles? Certain sizes that you like? What kind of scents or brands? Love them! I love Yankee Candles, but there are loads of brands I'd love to try. I'm not fussed whether they are soy or not. I love any size candles (but not tarts, as I don't tend to burn those). Favourite scents are foody / gourmand, spices, and berry fruits or apples.   Thoughts about South Africa? Have you been here, would you like to go? Would you like to receive anything South African? I have to admit I don't know a lot about it, but I'm always up for receiving chocolate from any country!   Do you like Sockdreams? If so, what styles would you prefer? (You can also link your wishlist.) Yes! I have only boughts the Trading Post Sock Dreams socks, but I would definitely love to buy more. Knee length or ankle length are fine. I have just started a wishlist here   Do you need hair accessories? If so, what kind or color? I don't really do much with my hair. It's quite long, thick & straight, but I'm super lazy   What is your favorite shade of blue? I like pale blues. I'm not a fan of royal blue, or really bright blues (unless they are pens! - then I like any shade)   Do you have any kitchen gadgets (a SodaStream, a Kuerig/Tassimo) that you want mix things for? nope   If you were to start learning something new (intellectual or craft or hobby), what would it be? I'd love to learn more about the history of Russia, as well as learn new scrapbooking techniques, and learn again how to play piano (as it's been manymany years!). I also want to improve my cooking skills so I guess that comes in the learning category!   What about candy? Do you have a sweet tooth? I can definitely get in the mood for candy & chocolates!   Do you have an e-reader? What kind? Would you like to get ebooks? Nope, not an e-reader owner.   If your witch is an extremely crafty sort, and she were to send all kinds of homemade foody goodies and handmade crafty stuff - what are items you would NOT LOVE to receive. Please dont hedge on this one...some of us are serious crafters and will be making most of what we send! I would be happy with anything!   Witchee dear, do you like video games? Are there any you want to play? Do you have a large library? Not really. We have a playstation and a Wii but I never use them.   Do you have something you do, without fail, as a personal daily habit/ritual? (Examples: pen-and-paper journal keeping, tea/coffee drinking, morning yoga, nightly bedtime reading. I'm kind of thinking on things that would be dear to you and might need small supplies or could use certain extras. ) I have a mug of tea every morning. I feel quite lost when I don't do that!   Do you wear nailpolish? What colors do you tend to go for? What are your favorite brands? Are you open to trying indie brands? I love nail polish! I tend to favour pinks & purples, including berry hues. I also love glitter and flakie top coats. I have tried a few indie brands so far - Rainbow Honey, Pretty & Polished - and I love them & would love to try others.   Name three BPAL scents you have tried, but are dying to get more of. Rares - Hellion (& Hellion v2), Elf v4, Snake Charmer. Slightly easier to obtain - Midnight Mass, Siberian Musk, Red Lantern   Do you still write real letters on nice stationary to people you like/love? I do! I love writing proper letters, and using pretty writing paper.   Have you ever tried anything from Paintbox Soapworks? Which products or scents would you prefer? I haven't, though someone frimped me a little soap from there which smells incredible! So I'd love to try more things from them, especially the sugar scrubs.   Do you like/have space to garden? If so, what do you grow? I'm... not really a gardener. One day I would like to have a vegetable patch though.   Do you like sample sized things? Think lipgloss, mascara, bodylotion, scrubs, mini candles, and so forth. Definitely! They are so handy for putting in my bag, having in my drawer at work or for travelling. Plus, sample-sized things are so cute!   Have you tried Fortune Cookie Soap? What products or scents would you like? I haven't heard of this company before! I am looking at their website now - it looks great! Body butters or scrubs - from any company! - always interest me   Do you use solid soaps at all? If so, what kind do or don't you like? I have such a huge collection already - I have over-ordered from BPTP and Villainess soaps in the past, but don't use them as much as my ordering would imply!   Have you ever tried Cocoa Pink? If you are curious about it, what looks interesting to you? I haven't, but I would like to! I'd love to try some of their Voluptuous body butters or scrubs.   Do you like Lush? If so, what is your favorite product that is currently available, also, what is a product that you love but has been discontinued? It's been awhile since I've used a lot of Lush, although I really love their Lemony Flutter cuticle cream.   Do witches prefer the answers posted here, but a more cherry-picked number of questions answered, or a more exhaustive list posted in the blog, which means posting here much less? I really don't mind at all - whatever works best for my witchee!   Anyone a fan of Shiro Cosmetics? Any particular products? Eye shadow pigments in general? I haven't tried Shiro Cosmetics. I have used MAC eyeshadow pigments though, and really like them!   Are there any companies, products, or items you boycott? I'm not a fan of Wal-mart...   As I am in Japan, what sort of things would you like from there? I'm a sucker for Sanrio (Hello Kitty & friends) stationery...   Since FB and the FB Gusp group (and the BPAL Sorority which is quiet) have become gathering places...what are some of your favorite Facebook pages you like? Most FB pages I like are for singers or companies I like, as opposed to groups or chatty places.   -----   Dr Who? I think it would be something I would like, if I actually made myself sit down and watch a few seasons. But I'm not great with watching tv shows so...   How much do you like lipbalm? Flavored or unflavored? What are your favorite brands and flavors? Love lipbalms as well. My favourites are Burts Bees, and Fresh Sugar Treatments, as well as Philosophy and Sara Happ.   Do you like and wear lipgloss? If yes, what colours? I LOVE lipgloss. Huge lipgloss junkie here! I like berry colours the most, and sparkling pinks!   For those of you whose wishlists contain only BPALs, are there any other perfume companies you like or would like to try out? I've tried & liked perfumes from Arcana, Villainess, Violette Market, Possets, and Carnival Wax. I'd also love to try perfumes from Moxie Nouveau.   Your feelings on Adagio teas: If you've never had anything from them, would you be open to trying them? If you HAVE had them and like them, name some favorites blends. And if you had them and dislike them, can you name a few *other* tea companies you're into? Love them! I have only tried a few, but would definitely love to try more. I'm a big tea fan. I prefer flavoured black teas (vanilla, chai, nut flavours, caramel etc), but I'd love to try other varieties as well, like Rooibos.   What about coffee? Would you like to get coffee send to you? Whole bean or ground? What are some varieties and/or flavors you enjoy I don't drink coffee.   Who is your favourite female of all time? Historical, literary, ANYTHING, and why? Tori Amos is definitely a huge inspiration & someone I admire ever so much. There are so many inspiring & strong females out there, both historical and present. I admire women with voices, who try to make the world a better place.   If you were a Disney princess you would be?: Tinkerbell isn't a princess, but she's definitely the character I'd most like to be!   Would you like a seashell from Florida? Sure, why not!   What craft project do you currently have on your docket or that you want to start? And that craft goodies would be welcome? I would love to get back into scrapbooking again. I put it, and all other crafts, aside when I started studying again in 2007, so now that I have finished I would love to try & find my creative spark again. Any scrapbooking papers, embellishments, washi tape etc would be most welcome!

My first order from the Lab

I made my first order from the Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab at the end of June, after weeks of pouring through the descriptions, and trying to narrow down my choices. I had actually heard about BPAL a few years ago, from a few livejournal friends, but the range of scents slightly overwhelmed me, and I just didn't know where to start. But I finally decided to bite the bullet, and dive in - and I'm so glad I did! Imagine - I could have been addicted to this stuff years ago! Well, my credit card is glad I wasn't anyway.   The first order I made was naturally, all imps. Future posts will have some reviews or thoughts about some of the oils, but for the time being, just a list.   Ophelia: Wistful and vulnerable: lotus, water blossom ivy, stargazer lily and white rose Juliet: Sweet pea with stargazer lily, calla lily, heliotrope, honeysuckle, white musk and a touch of fresh pear Helena: Rose amber, calla lily, night-blooming jasmine, water lily, and white rose Pontarlier: The legendary birthplace of the Green Fairy. Swiss ferns, lilac, blackcurrant, Gallic rose and lavender with a dollop of sugar and absinthe Alice: Milk and honey with rose, carnation and bergamot Eat Me: Three white cakes, vanilla, and red and black currants Mouse's Long and Sad Tale: Vanilla, two ambers, sweet pea and white sandalwood The Queen of Hearts: Lily of the Valley, Calla Lily, stephanotis and a drop of cherry Tiger Lily: A feisty bouquet of golden, warm, gently honeyed lilies Two, Five and Seven: A huge bouquet of squished rose petals: Bulgarian rose, Somalian rose, Turkish rose, Damascus rose, red and white rose, tea rose, wine rose, shrub roses, rose, rose, rose… …and just an itty bitty bit of green grass The Unicorn: A misty, almost luminous perfume: wispy linden blossoms, white flowers, and a touch of sweet herbs Moon rose: A crisp, pale, almost translucent rose dusted by moonflower and midnight dew Dragon's Milk: A truly fae nectar! Dragon's blood resin and honeyed vanilla Magdalene: A stirring yet gentle perfume. The scent of love and devotion mingled with an undercurrent of heart-rending sorrow. A bouquet of white roses, labdanum, and wild orchid Brisingamen: A glittering mantle of rich golden notes: five ambers, soft myrtle and apple blossom, myrtle, and carnation Endymion: A sweet, wistful blend of d'Anjou pear, Lily of the Valley, bois du rose and white musk The Lady of Shallott: The scent of calm waters just before a raging storm, limned with achingly-beautiful blooms, an icy scent, but somehow warm, and mirror-bright: bold gardenia, crystalline musk, muguet, water blossoms, clear, slightly tart aquatic notes and a crush of white ginger Eve: The spirit of temptation, the essence of lost innocence. Apple blossom, rose, ylang ylang and golden honey Iambe: Her scent is one of comfort, beauty and joy: Sudanese amber, patchouli, rose, gardenia, gladiola and white tea Kali: This perfume is a blend of the sacred blooms of cassia, hibiscus, musk rose, Himalayan wild tulip, lotus and osmanthus swirled with offertory dark chocolate, red wine, tobacco, balsam and honey Kurukulla: The Tibetan goddess of love and wealth. Her scent is a harmonious, sweet, enchanting blend of three lotus blooms and three roses Nuit: Her perfume is starry and crystalline, a jewel-clad and glittering paean to night: dazzling white musks, white rose and night-blooming jasmine with the soft moss of moonlit meadows, a waft of Egyptian incense, and a gentle breath of moonflower Pannychis: Night-blooming jasmine, moonflower, cardamom, sandalwood, black currant, ylang ylang, frankincense and lily Calliope: Hers is the scent of creative inspiration, and it is a boon to writers, poets and arbitrators: lavender and bright mint with bergamot, verbena, thyme and a touch of sweet orange and warm almond   (Ordered: 22-June, CnS: 30-June, Received: 10-July)

BPAL blog

I decided to take advantage of the fact we can have blogs on here, and use this for my BPAL related ramblings; after all, who best can understand my quickly-growing addiction, than a whole community dedicated to this amazing range of oils! I have been making orders like crazy, and I keep a little notebook with the descriptions of each oil I have, and my notes on whether I like it, what it reminds me of, seasons to wear them in, and whether I'll be reordering. I'm sure my boyfriend thinks I'm nuts... but at least he agrees I smell good! Hopefully I can use this blog to do a similar thing, and also read other people's thoughts (bpal or not!)   Love xx
